What Is Proctitis or Rectal Infection*

Proctitis is an infllammation of the inner lining of the last six inches of the rectum – the muscular tube that connects to your colon. A telltale symptom of proctitis is a continual or frequent feeling of fullness in the rectum – as if you need to have a bowel movement. Other possible proctitis symptoms are swelling, tenderness, diarrhea, blood in the stool, pain on the left side of the abdomen, a bloody or mucusy discharge, spasms, and pain and cramping during bowel movements.

Complications of proctitis can include hemorrhoids, anemia (from chronic bleeding from the bowel) and tears (called fissures) and ulcers in the lining of the rectum. Severe ulcers can tunnel through the intestinal wall and form fistulas – abnormal passages between parts of the intestine or to an organ (such as the bladder or vagina), or from the intestine out through the skin.

There is a connection between Crohns, colitis and proctitis. Other common causes of proctitis are infections (including STDs), the use of antibiotics, and radiation therapy at or near your rectum. A rectal infection (an infection in the rectum) is usually caused by bacteria. Rectal infections often result from proctitis, an inflammatory bowel disease like Crohns or colitis, or a rectal ulcer.

Natural Treatment For Proctitis or Rectal Infection*

If you suffer from proctitis or a form of colitis that affects your rectum, then you really need the comprehensive protocols in my book, Listen To Your Gut. Because this kind of chronic infection is not just localized, it involves your whole system, and so you need a holistic proctitis treatment approach that includes the entire body.

At the very least, you need to do Jini's Wild Oregano Oil Protocol orally (as detailed in my Listen To Your Gut and Jini's Healing Guide: Natural Treatment for Gut Infection books), and to also syringe diluted wild oregano oil up your rectum to heal the infection. I give you detailed instructions for this below, so at least you can get started with healing your proctitis and get some relief.

Then you need to take high dose probiotics to populate your gut with really potent good bacteria. Having a healthy bacterial flora will help to inhibit or eliminate pathogenic microorganisms like yeast, fungus, parasites, and bad bacteria that wound or burrow through the intestinal wall and cause inflammation, ulceration and infection.

Currently, I only recommend Natren brand probiotics, as they are the only company that meets the basic standards for quality and bioavailability and guarantees the live count through to the expiration date. You need to take the full spectrum of probiotics (Megadophilus, Bifido Factor, Digesta-Lac) in powder form if you are having more than 3 bowel movements per day. Otherwise, you can take the Healthy Trinity capsules.

If you have developed scar tissue in your rectum from repeated inflammation, wounding and healing, then you may want to use my Rectal StrictureHeal remedy to soften and dissolve that scar tissue – making it a lot easier for you to have a bowel movement.

If you need to soften and dissolve scar tissue, then you should probably heal your proctitis or rectal infection FIRST. Once your infection is healed, then you can use Rectal StrictureHeal to heal the scar tissue. But as I said, as a long-term proctitis treatment, it's really best to use the treatment plans in Listen To Your Gut to address the root causes of proctitis, so that it doesn't keep recurring.

Along with the holistic proctitis treatment in Listen To Your Gut, you can use the syringing protocol below to directly eliminate infection in the rectal tissue.

Jini’s Wild Oregano Syringing Protocol
(for Proctitis or Rectal Infection)

This protocol directly targets your proctitis or rectal infection and eliminates it very quickly, while also healing the affected tissue (wild oregano oil is an anti-inflammatory and has also been used with burn patients). If you would like to go slower, then still follow the instructions below, but apply only 3 times per day – you should still see good results from this reduced dosage, but it will take longer to heal.

• Syringe diluted wild oregano into your rectum, using a glass dropper. Start at a 7:1 dilution with olive oil (7 drops organic olive oil to every 1 drop of wild oregano oil), and then increase in strength to get it up to 4:1 or 3:1 (3 drops olive oil to 1 drop wild oregano oil) – the stronger, the better.

Apply to your rectum either with your legs over your head, or in the “hemorrhoid” position (on your knees and elbows with your head down and your bum raised in the air), so that the oregano oil stays in the rectum and doesn’t drain back out immediately. Stay in the application position for 10 minutes to allow the solution to penetrate.

NOTE: Never apply essential (undiluted) wild oregano oil to your rectum (or skin), as it is too strong and can damage the tissue. Always dilute as instructed above, and use the brands recommended in my LTYG Holistic Health Shoppe.

• Syringe 15 to 20 drops every 2 hours for the first 24 hours (when you’re asleep at night, let it go 4 to 6 hours).

• Then 15 to 20 drops every 4 hours for the next 24 hours.

• Then 15 to 20 drops, 4 times per day thereafter until the infection is completely gone.

• Then 15 to 20 drops, 2 times per day for 10 days (yes, this is AFTER there is no infection left).

• Allow the area to rest for a week, and then begin applying Rectal StrictureHeal if you have scar tissue.

• Throughout this whole regimen, continue with oral wild oregano oil and high dose probiotics, as described in Jini’s Wild Oregano Oil Protocol (detailed instructions are in Listen To Your Gut, or The IBD Remission Diet or Jini's Healing Guide: Natural Treatment for Gut Infection).

In case you are also experiencing proctitis and rectal infection complications, I also have effective treatment remedies for healing anal or rectal fissures, fistulas and hemorrhoids – see the Heal Your Symptoms section on this site for the natural remedies for each condition.
